How To Make Big Mac Casserole (Quick Overview)
The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make the Big Mac casserole. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Preheat your oven to the temperature listed on the recipe card (located at the end of the post).
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes along with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper.

Cook for 7–10 minutes, tossing now and then so they don’t burn, until the potatoes begin to soften. Transfer them to a bowl and set aside.
Using the same skillet, add the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked, stirring occasionally. Drain off any excess fat.

To the beef mixture, stir in the remaining salt and pepper, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, cubed cream cheese…

In the photo above, you’ll see the eggs added with the cream cheese. I have since updated the recipe to add the eggs after the next step to prevent any early cooking of the eggs (which will leave little egg bits in the casserole).
… and 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese.
If possible, shred the cheddar cheese used in this recipe yourself instead of using pre-shredded cheese. The anti-caking agents contained in pre-shredded cheese will hinder the melting process.

Mix until creamy and well combined. Add the eggs and stir again.
Spread the beef mixture evenly into the bottom of a casserole dish, then sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
I used an 8″ x 10″ casserole dish, but 9″ x 9″ or 8″ x 8″ works too!

Layer the cooked potatoes on top, spreading them evenly.

Optional make-ahead: If you’d like to prep this casserole in the morning and bake it in the evening, you can stop at this step and refrigerate the casserole, loosely covered, before completing the baking step in the evening.
Bake uncovered for 30 minutes. Remove the dish, sprinkle with the remaining cheese, and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the casserole is cooked through.

Let it cool for about 10 minutes while making the sauce. Then top it with shredded lettuce, pickles, and sauce. Optionally sprinkle on some sesame seeds for that authentic bun look.

Serve and enjoy! Trust me when I say this casserole tastes incredible.
