How To Make Beef Chili (Quick Overview)

The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make beef chili recipe. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Don’t let the photos above fool you – this is an easy chili recipe! I just broke it down into a lot of baby steps so you can follow along easily. 🙂

  • Photo 1: Add olive oil to a saute pan on medium-low heat. When the oil is heated, add chopped red onion and saute until the onion begins to turn translucent.
  • Photo 2: Then add garlic and cook until onions are translucent and the garlic starts to brown.
  • Photo 3: Add ground beef and stir.
  • Photo 4: Turn heat up to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is almost cooked through.
  • Photo 5: Add chili seasoning and chopped bell pepper.
  • Photo 6: Stir thoroughly to incorporate the chili seasoning into the beef. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Photo 7: Add kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef stock.
  • Photo 8: Thoroughly stir the mixture. Bring it to a low boil.
  • Photo 9: Then, reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. Simmer the chili, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving Tips

  • This chili can be served as-is or topped with cheese and/or sour cream. Cilantro can also be a great addition.
  • A side of cornbread or tortilla chips is also a delicious pairing!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 large red onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 serving Homemade Chili Seasoning Mix
  • 1 medium red bell pepper (chopped)
  • 14 oz can kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 28 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups beef stock

Instructions

  • Add olive oil to a saute pan on medium-low heat. When the oil is heated, add chopped red onion and saute until the onion begins to turn translucent. Then add garlic and cook until onions are translucent and the garlic starts to brown.
  • Add ground beef and stir. Turn heat up to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is almost cooked through.
  • Add chili seasoning and chopped bell pepper, stirring thoroughly to incorporate the chili seasoning into the beef. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef stock, and again thoroughly stir the mixture. Bring it to a low boil.
