How To Make Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole (Quick Overview)
The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make the cheeseburger tater tot casserole. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Preheat your oven to the temperature listed on the recipe card (located at the end of the post).
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sauté the onion, garlic, and beef until the onions are soft and the beef is fully cooked.

Season with salt and pepper, then toss in the cream cheese cubes.

Stir until the cream cheese melts and everything is combined.
To a big bowl, add the tomatoes, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, pickles, eggs, and 1 1/2 cups of Cheddar cheese.
Be sure to shred the cheddar cheese used in this recipe yourself instead of using pre-shredded cheese—the anti-caking agents contained in pre-shredded cheese will hinder the melting process.

Mix until combined, then add the beef mixture and stir it all together until everything is well combined.

Pour the mixture into a casserole dish.
I used an 8” x 10” casserole dish, but 9” x 9” or 8” x 8” works too!
Arrange the tater tots in an even layer on top.

Pop it in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
If the tater tots start to get too brown at this step, just cover the dish with some foil.
Take it out of the oven (remove the foil if you used it), sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top, and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the casserole is fully cooked through.

Serve it up and enjoy! You can add a little ketchup on the side if you’d like.

Fun fact: Tater tots were invented in 1953 to use up potato scraps left over from making french fries!
