Why You Will Love This Peppermint Mocha Recipe

  • It’s the perfect cozy holiday drink. While you can enjoy this coffee any time in the fall or winter (or spring or summer if you want!), it’s such a comforting drink for the holidays. Christmas + this coffee + a warm blanket + fireplace = total bliss!
  • You can customize it based on your flavor preferences. The recipe as written is a great starting point, but you can modify the cocoa powder, sugar, and peppermint extract amounts based on what you prefer.
  • It’s a great excuse to make homemade whipped cream. It’s always a good day when you need to make homemade whipped cream! 😀

Ingredients Needed for This Easy Mocha Recipe

Ingredient quantities are located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

  1. Milk: I usually use 2% Fairlife Milk for the extra protein, but any milk works here
  2. Heavy whipping cream: This makes it extra-creamy!
  3. Brewed coffee: Any coffee works here – I personally use a heaping teaspoon of Nescafe Gold Instant Espresso made in 6 oz water
  4. Cocoa powder: For a more intense chocolate flavor, use dutch-process cocoa powder
  5. Powdered sugar: I recommend powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar to ensure the sugar fully dissolves
  6. Peppermint extract or peppermint syrup
  7. Homemade whipped cream: optional, but highly recommended!
  8. Other toppings as desired: More cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, chocolate syrup, etc.

How To Make Peppermint Mocha (Quick Overview)

The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make the homemade peppermint mocha recipe. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Combine all ingredients except for the peppermint extract in a saucepan over medium heat.

Warm the mixture to your desired temperature (I do about two minutes), turn off the heat, add the peppermint extract (or syrup), and mix again.

This recipe makes a single Peppermint Mocha.

Tips for Making this Peppermint Mocha

  • Make sure to use powdered sugar. Regular sugar will give the coffee a slightly grainy texture.
  • … but you may want to skip the sugar if you use peppermint syrup. Since peppermint syrup is sweetened, you may not need to add extra sugar if you use syrup instead of extract.
  • My favorite coffee to use in this is actually instant coffee! I use a heaping teaspoon of Nescafe Gold Instant Espresso made in 6 oz water. (I use the Intense version, but the Blonde works too – it just has less caffeine.)
