Why You Will Love Apple Crisp
Ingredients Needed for This Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredient quantities are located in the recipe card at the end of the post.
- Apples: Golden Delicious apples are my favorite for apple crisp, but they’re not always the easiest to find. You can also use varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Pink Lady apples.
- Lemon juice
- Vanilla extract
- Brown sugar or granulated sugar: I like to go brown sugar all the way in my apple crisp, but some people prefer one or the other (or a combo).
- All-purpose flour
- Cinnamon
- Old-fashioned oats: You can use quick oats in a pinch, but the crisp will be chewier.
- Butter
How To Make Apple Crisp (Quick Overview)
The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make the homemade apple crisp recipe. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.
Peel and slice your apples and place them in a large bowl.

Top apples with lemon juice, vanilla extract, sugar, flour, and cinnamon.

Stir to fully coat the apples, then add them to a casserole dish.
I used an 8″ x 10″ casserole dish, but you can also use a 9″ x 9″ casserole dish.

Wipe out the bowl you used to toss the apples, then add all topping ingredients.

Using a pastry cutter, fork, or your hands, cut the butter into the dry ingredients mixture until it reaches a crumbly texture. Then, crumble it over your apples.

Bake for 55-60 minutes until the topping has browned and the edges are bubbling.

Cool for five minutes, then serve.
🍏 To serve: I highly recommend serving this with ice cream. Whipped cream is a good runner-up!
