How To Make Cottage Cheese Salad (Quick Overview)

The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make the recipe. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

This salad is so easy to make! First, prep your vegetables:

  • Dice the red onion
  • Dice the English cucumber (you can peel and/or deseed it if you want; I typically leave the peels on since they’re thin and scoop out only a few seeds)
  • Dice the bell pepper
  • Halve the grape tomatoes
  • Finely chop the fresh herbs (if using; I used basil)

Add all of the prepared vegetables to a large bowl, plus the salt and pepper to taste, and of course the cottage cheese!

How to Store Cottage Cheese Salad in the Refrigerator

To keep your cottage cheese salad fresh, store it in an airtight container to lock in flavors and avoid fridge odors. Place it in the coldest part of your fridge (usually the back). It should last 2-3 days, but always check its appearance and smell before serving.

The cucumber will release some water if you store this salad overnight. If you prefer not to have this happen, add the cucumber immediately before serving.

How to Store Salad with Cottage Cheese in the Freezer

It is best to avoid freezing cottage cheese salad because the texture can change and become watery after thawing. If you must freeze it, use a freezer-safe container, but be prepared for some consistency changes when defrosted.
