Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients
- 8 oz brick cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 4 oz (1 stick) unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
- 3 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt (to taste)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine cream cheese and vanilla extract. Use a hand or stand mixer to beat on medium speed until the cream cheese becomes light and fluffy, which should take about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the butter and repeat the process.
- Gradually incorporate the powdered sugar and salt, beating the mixture until it is smooth, free of lumps, and light and fluffy.
Notes
- This makes approximately 3 cups frosting
- For a thicker and sweeter frosting: add up to 1 cup additional powdered sugar
- For an enhanced vanilla flavor: add up to 1 tsp additional vanilla extract
- For a richer flavor and appearance: use vanilla paste instead of vanilla extract
- Because this frosting contains cream cheese, the frosting (and anything you use it on) must be refrigerated
