How To Make Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting (Quick Overview)

🍫 Photo 1: Grab your cream cheese that’s been softened to room temp and beat it with the vanilla extract on medium until it’s nice and fluffy, which should take about 1-2 minutes.

Gradually incorporate the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt, beating the mixture until it is smooth and free of lumps. Your frosting is ready to use!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz brick cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 4 oz 1 stick unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder (preferably Dutch process, sifted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt (to taste)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine cream cheese and vanilla extract. Use a hand or stand mixer to beat on medium speed until the cream cheese becomes light and fluffy, which should take about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the butter and repeat the process.
  • Gradually incorporate the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt, beating the mixture until it is smooth and free of lumps.

Notes

  • This makes approximately 2 1/4 cups of frosting
  • For a thicker and sweeter frosting: add up to 1 cup additional powdered sugar
