The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make chocolate chip cookies. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

  • Preheat oven to temperature on recipe card (at the end of the post). In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl or bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and almond extract (optional) until well mixed. (Photo 1)

🍪 Tip

The tiny bit of optional almond extract just gives these cookies a light touch of nutty flavor. You don’t have to go out of your way to buy almond extract, but if you already have it on hand, I recommend adding it!

  • Add egg (Photo 2) and beat until incorporated.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture and beat until fully combined. Add chocolate chips. (Photo 3)
  • Gently fold in chocolate chips. (Photo 4)
  • Use a cookie scoop or spoon to add dough to non-stick cookie sheets.

🍪 Tip

Space your cookies least 3″ to 4″ apart to allow them to spread while baking.

  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are beginning to brown. Do not overbake!
