Ingredients Needed for this Easy Big Mac Salad

Ingredient quantities for this easy Big Mac Salad recipe are located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

  1. 93% ground beef
  2. Garlic
  3. White onion
  4. Iceberg or romaine lettuce: I like to go with iceberg for the classic burger taste, but romaine is great too! (and more nutritious)
  5. Grape or cherry tomatoes: I know this goes against the “classic burger taste” thing I mentioned about the lettuce, but I find these tomatoes are a little easier and less sloppy to work with. But you can use regular if you’d prefer!
  6. Shredded cheddar cheese
  7. Dill pickles
  8. Sesame seeds
  9. Worcestershire sauce
  10. Mayonnaise
  11. White vinegar
  12. Mustard
  13. Ketchup
  14. Relish
  15. Salt
  16. Pepper

How To Make Big Mac Salad (Quick Overview)

The steps below are just a quick overview of how to make the recipe. The full process in detail is located in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Start by making the sauce by combining all of the sauce ingredients. Resist the urge to drink it out of the bowl! 😉

The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to three days, or two weeks if you omit the minced onion.

Next, cook the beef by sautéing it with the garlic and onions until it is cooked through, and then stir in the salt, pepper, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. This combo is so tasty and will start to remind you of a burger already!

Next, it’s time to assemble your salad. You can assemble six individual salads, one huge salad, or portion all of the ingredients out if you’re letting people build their own salads.

Don’t forget that amazing sauce! It really ties the whole thing together.

You can serve it either with all of the toppings separate (above) or all of the toppings mixed in (below).

Serve and enjoy! This yummy salad may just become your next favorite salad meal.

If you want to go “full burger,” you can make croutons out of hamburger buns.

How Do I Refrigerate Big Mac Salad?

Storing your Big Mac salad is super simple! Just keep the ingredients separate in airtight containers—this way, the lettuce stays crisp, and the other toppings don’t get soggy. When you’re ready to enjoy, toss everything together with that irresistible Big Mac sauce, and you’re good to go!

How Do I Freeze Big Mac Salad Leftovers?

Freezing Big Mac salad leftovers isn’t the best idea, and here’s why—it just doesn’t hold up well in the freezer. The lettuce will wilt and lose its crunch, and the texture of the other ingredients can change too. If you absolutely must freeze something, you could try freezing just the cooked meat separately, as it’ll reheat nicely later. Then, when you’re ready, whip up the fresh lettuce, toppings, and sauce to enjoy that classic Big Mac salad taste without any compromise!

  • 1/2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp mustard
  • 1/2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp minced onion
  • 1 tbsp relish

Salad Ingredients

  • 1 lb 93% ground beef
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 white onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 10-12 cups iceberg or romaine lettuce (chopped or shredded)
  • 1 pint grape or cherry tomatoes (halved)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced dill pickles
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

Sauce Instructions

  • Start by thoroughly mixing all the sauce ingredients.
  • Keep the sauce covered until you're ready to use it. If you're not preparing the salad right away, store the sauce in the fridge for up to three days (or two weeks if you omit the onion).

Salad Instructions

  • In a skillet over medium heat, add crumbled ground beef, garlic, and onions. Cook while stirring frequently until the beef is browned and fully cooked.
  • Once cooked, remove the skillet from the heat and drain any excess fat. Next, stir in salt, pepper, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  • From the beef and remaining ingredients, including the sauce, you can either assemble individual salads or create one large salad.
  • I usually layer the lettuce at the bottom, followed by a side-by-side layer of beef, tomatoes, cheese, and dill pickles. After that, I drizzle the sauce on top and sprinkle sesame seeds. Sometimes I enjoy the salad as it is, while other times I toss all the ingredients together or just mix the toppings, leaving the lettuce as a base. Feel free to do what suits your taste!
